On Tuesday, November 8th, 2011 Council adopted the Chemainus Town Centre Revitalization Plan with votes 6 to 1. This is an exciting accomplishment for the community and District of North Cowichan. But –the fun doesn’t stop here! This is a plan near and dear to Chemainus and all its residents. Moving forwards there is going to be lots of hard work and dedication necessary to bring these ideas to reality. With committment, good things are to come…

Council Meeting - Tuesday November 8th

As communicated in the one-page advertisement in the Chemainus Courier, November edition, the Chemainus Town Centre Revitalization Plan DRAFT will be presented to Council at the Council meeting on Tuesday, November 8th at 7:00p.m., at the Chemainus Secondary School (in the gymnasium or the multi-purpose room). Residents and business owners are encouraged to attend this meeting and provide a better understanding of the Plan process and intended goals. Chemainus Advisory Committee Meeting & Plan Recommendations – October 20th

The Chemainus Advisory Committee, Staff and consultants met on Thursday, October 20th after compiled revisions and recommendations for the DRAFT plan had been carried out. From this meeting, the Chemainus Advisory Committee recommend that the Chemainus Town Centre Revitalization plan, with select ammendments, be presented to Council for approval.  Please stay tuned for further dates and information regarding the progress of this plan.

Chemainus Advisory Committee Meeting & Plan Revisions - October 6th

The Chemainus Advisory Committee, Staff, and consultants met on Thursday, October 6th to review the public feedback received from the meeting and open house on Septmeber 22nd as well as the feedback received via comment forms. This meeting facilitated discussion about plan changes and direction for these revisions to best reflect the voice of the public. At this meeting, plan revisions were identified for review at a follow-up meeting on October 20th, 2011.

A Full House to Review Downtown Revitalization Planning – September 22nd

More than 125 community members came out on Thursday September 22nd to review the work of consultants and the Chemainus Advisory Commitee. People were invited to review displays describing a wide range of ideas for Chemainus’ future. Over the course of the evening many questions were asked and there was much discussion about next steps. A consistent theme throughout the evening was the sense of urgency in finding a concensus on ideas and taking the next steps forward.

For those who may not have been able to attend this workshop there is still a chance to make sure your ideas are incorporated into the revitalization planning process. The display material from the open house is available below. Please take a moment to fill out the survey/comment form. Completed forms can be dropped off at the Chemainus Chamber of Commerce of the District of North Cowichan office up to September 30th.

Members of the public are invited to attend an open house to view the draft Chemainus Town Centre Revitalization Plan. This is an excellent opportunity to give your feedback on the overall plan, and provide input into the locations of a new Chemainus library, community centre, and skatepark. Also, see how new waterfront and multi-use trail networks will contribute to a pedestrian-friendly and connected community.

You are encouraged to attend and to tell us what your vision is for your community and which ideas you think are most important. Municipal staff and consultants will be available to answer questions and to provide further details on key initiatives.

60 to 70 attended the June 23rd Open House

Sixty or seventy people attended the open house to participate in the conversation about next steps for Chemainus’ Town Centre Revitalization. This open house provided the opportunity to look at ideas developed at the June 16th design workshop. Many of these concepts were summarized and presented in a series of open house posters.

An overall image of Chemainus Town Centre was prepared to illustrate how many of these concepts may work together.

You are invited to provide your comments on these ideas and to indicate which ones you think may be the most important.

Open House — June 23rd — Please Come and Join Us

Members of the public are invited to attend an open house and presentation regarding the Chemainus Town Centre Revitalization Plan on Thursday, June 23, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Chemainus Legion located at 9775 Chemainus Road.

The Plan will build on the community’s unique cultural heritage and will help create development guidelines that promote a vibrant, well-defined, mixed-use town centre that will be an exciting focal point of the community. This meeting will provide an excellent opportunity to tell us what your vision of your community is and to give your input into the Plan. You are encouraged to attend at 6:30 p.m. when the presentation will begin.
